FIRM DESIGN PHILOSOPHY Hagney Architects’ design approach brings together a concern for program requirements and plan efficiency with an appreciation for the quality of public and private spaces. We recognize good design comes from addressing a combination of unique program needs and specific physical requirements found with each new project and each new site. Communication is the tool that facilitates timely and reliable decision-making and optimizes coordination of the design and construction work. At Hagney Architects we have had the opportunity to work extensively with our local and regional public school districts on additions, renovations and Life Safety projects- including field houses/gymnasiums, cafeterias, kitchens, classrooms, offices, library/media centers, locker rooms, window replacements, mechanical upgrades, roof replacements and ADA surveys.
In addition to our school project, we work with local learning, daycare, and community centers to provide the right environment for children to learn and grow.

When working on historic preservation and restoration projects, it is essential that each project is approached with an understanding of, and an appreciation for, the integrity of the building. David Hagney brings to the table a strong background in historic preservation and has been active in the preservation movement and in working with neighborhood groups. David was instrumental in the development of the Rockford Historic Preservation Ordinance, Plan and Survey during his tenure with the City of Rockford's Department of Community Development.
